The band, DFL, is a fascinating mix of musical drives.
“DFL” is usually interpreted as “Down From London” (particularly along the Kent coast) but, in this case, it stand for Mike Deavin, Nigel Feist and Brian Langsdon.
All three are well known on the Kent music scene but their backgrounds differ hugely over the years.
Mike Deavin has been regularly booked as a solo singer, songwriter, guitarist on the contemporary folk and blues scene at clubs and festivals throughout the country for decades, often sharing a stage with folk legends such as Fairport Convention, Ralph McTell, Dougie MacLean and June Tabor.
Nigel Feist is Festival Director and co-founder of the highly acclaimed annual Broadstairs Blues Bash. He has been involved in all types of music for over 20 years, including European tours with The Doors tribute band, LA Doors (with Nigel as Jim Morrison). A brilliant blues singer, his first love is harmonica, which he plays to great effect with DFL.
Brian Langsdon plays lead, rhythm and bass guitar with several well-known bands in and around Kent. With DFL, he plays brilliant classic “stand up” bass and harmonises with Mike and Nigel’s vocals.
So, given the breadth of musical backgrounds it comes as no surprise that a typical DFL gig covers renditions from contemporary folk to classic blues to vintage pop!
Something for everyone!
And why do Mike, Nigel and Brian do this?
Well, of course, they Do it For Love….
