The Broadstairs Victorian Summer weekend is a three-day, action-packed festival providing drama, comedy, historical events and traditional Victorian enjoyment for all age-groups! Broadstairs in Kent is the place to head for, during July 23rd-25th 2010, if typical Victorian entertainment attracts you.
Featured day events include the March of the Militant Maids, complete with household utensils and banners decrying their conditions of work and the despicable ban of their employers,on male followers! The suffragettes are also on the warpath as they hold rallies, parades, chain themselves to likely targets and generally create mayhem! Hat-making workshops, competitions and traditional Victorian picnics and games are included in the programme.
A Victorian street scene is enacted with unusual stalls selling an array of goodies will be positioned along the promenade and gardens The evening entertainments at local venues are unmissable! The 'Undressing of Mr.Darcy' and 'Victorians have Talent' were just two of the events on offer in 2009.
In July 2010 more fun is promised with unique productions of 'The Time Machine' by H.G.Wells and the Pearly Royal Family celebrating a wedding, with the traditional 'knees-up' and cockney rhyming slang.
