Achievements of the Chamber

 


In the last two decades the Broadstairs & St. Peter's Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in the following:

  • Raising funds for the installation of CCTV in the town

  • Instrumental in starting the hanging baskets scheme

  • Contributing to funding towards the Decorative Lighting Scheme

  • Supplying and financing street bunting.

  • Campaigning to get the Viking Bay Lift up and running

  • Introduction of the Dickensian Christmas Weekend, in conjunction with the Dickens Society and Hoteliers. This is now run by the Dickens Festival with support from the Chamber

  • Running seminars for members

  • Negotiating with the District Council to keep car parking fees to a minimum

  • Running a car parking refund scheme

  • Monitoring the effects of Westwood Cross

  • In 1994 the Water Gala was saved by the Chamber instigating a rescue committee to run the event

  • Supporting the Town's events

  • Monitoring the traffic calming measures in the lower High Street and Albion Street

  • Running an annual Best Dressed Christmas window competition

  • Promoting the town at Christmas to encourage shopping in the town

  • The Chamber is represented on the Town Forum, Thanet Licenseing Forum, Police Liaison committee and Thanet Safe Radio

  • Negotiating with Kent Highways to ensure major roadworks in the town are avoided at peak times

  • Monitoring the location of brown tourist signs

  • Keeping members informed on changes to legislation - most recently the smoking ban
